BUSINESS AS USUAL

The British pop chart will undergo one of the biggest shake-ups since its inception 54 years ago on Sunday when any song downloaded from the Internet will be able to compete for the number one single spot due to the fact that downloads now far outstrip over-the-counter sales.

Ironically, major label CEOs are complaining that uniform pricing policies are unfair for artists even though digital can be a raw deal for artists to begin with.

In fact, "signed" artists can suffer from an overall reduction in income of 85% if all of their fans buy through digital download services rather than buying CDs at the record store.
